來源頭條作者:劍橋MSE考試資訊“清明”是中國傳統二十四節氣（the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms）中的第五個節氣，也是諸多節氣中唯一一個與傳統節日“清明節”（Tomb Sweeping Day）重合的節氣。

因“清”“明”二字皆為描述天氣的詞語，所以“清明”的英語表達為Clear and Bright。

清明節的英語表達

說到清明節，你可能想到的是Qingming Festival。

festival有兩層含義：

① 宗教的祭祀活動

② 又唱又跳的慶祝活動

√ Jewish festival 猶太教節日

√ a rock festival 搖滾音樂節

清明節并不屬于這兩者范圍，像這類較為莊嚴的其實可以用Day來表示，比如Mother's Day母親節；清明節是祭祀祖先亡靈的日子，我們經常會掃墓。所以叫做：

√ Tomb Sweeping Day 清明節

別的節日可以慶祝（celebrate），但是清明節卻有其特殊性，只能用observe。

也有人把清明節翻譯為“All Souls' Day”，這是一種站在西方文化角度考慮做出的翻譯。因為“All Souls' Day”在西方是確實存在的節日，一般稱為“萬靈節”。

這是一個宗教節日，在有的教派里甚至不止一天。教會會在這一天為那些去世后無法進入天堂的信徒祈禱，希望他們早日進入天堂。其基本意義和清明節相似，也是祭奠死者的節日。

清明節的食俗

√ Green rice ball 青團

People in the Jiangnan region often eat this kind of green colored balls made from glutinous rice on Tomb Sweeping Day. The green color is from the juice of brome grass that is added in the rice.

江南地區的人們經常在清明節食用這種由糯米制成的綠色團子。由于糯米中混合雀麥草汁，所以團子呈綠色。

√ Cudweed herb rolls 清明果

The best time to pick fresh cudweed herb is around Tomb Sweeping Day. The herb is often added in veggie rolls or dumplings and consumed on the day. In South China, people add the wild plant also in steamed buns.

清明節前后，是采摘新鮮鼠曲草（清明草）的最佳時機。當天，人們會在蔬菜卷或餃子里加入鼠曲草當作餡料。在華南地區，人們還將這種野菜加在饅頭里面。

√ Thin pancake 薄餅

People in Xiamen in Fujian province often have thin pancakes on Tomb Sweeping Day. Dried seaweed, omelette, veggies and chili sauce are added in the pancakes to enhance the flavor.

福建廈門的人在清明節時常常食用薄煎餅。薄餅中加入紫菜、煎蛋、蔬菜和辣椒醬，會更加美味。

清明節的習俗

1. 掃墓

用祭品來紀念逝者

2. 踏青，春游

清明節外出踏青等活動不僅給生活增添了歡樂，也促進了身心的健康。

3. 放風箏

Flying Kites

Flying kites is also closely associated with the Qingming Festival.

放風箏也是和清明節密切聯系的一項活動。

4. 插柳

Planting Willow Trees

Because Jie Zitui died embracing a willow tree, the willow is believed to have miraculous powers against evil. During the Qingming Festival, willow branches are hung on door fronts and used to sweep the tombs

因為介子推死的時候抱著一棵柳樹，所以柳樹被認為擁有一種可以對抗邪惡的神奇力量。清明時節，人們會將柳枝掛在門前，或拿柳枝進行掃墓。

“去世”更合適的英文表達

和中文表達一樣，說去世比死亡要合適很多。

√ pass away 去世

√ be gone 過世

√ be left 離世

√ I lost someone 失去了某人

√ someone is in a better place 去了更好的地方

√ rest in peace 安息

國外現在很多人不再稱葬禮為funeral，而是用下面這個短語來換個角度看待死亡：a celebration of life 生命的儀式，更顯尊重。

緬懷先人，

孝敬長輩，

珍惜身邊人，

也許這正是清明節的意義所在。
